The next decade is crucial to the future of water resources and resilience. With the new Asset Management Period (AMP8) well underway, water companies and their supply chain partners are tasked with delivering many multiples of capital investment in any previous period since privatisation and before. Alongside the new innovative schemes and are the assets underpinning water supply and wastewater networks, many of these have served the country for generations. Managing and renewing this base has too often been overlooked in the face of tough financial choices by companies.
Effective asset management is at the heart of overcoming the combined challenges of the changing climate and growing demand. Many of the decades-old pipes, treatment plants and pumping stations are under increasing pressures and companies must make strategic decisions about when to maintain, refurbish, or replace assets. Not only must the essential services keep running to provide the long-term resilience customers expect, but within budget.

Even critical investment must be carefully justified, the six submissions to the regulatory authority Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) cited asset health as a key concern for the coming decades.
Companies must find smarter ways to invest billpayers' money by embracing technologies, predictive maintenance and innovative engineering solutions to extend the life of assets and improve efficiency.
The WWT Asset Management and Capital Projects Conference brings together industry leaders to collaborate and share successes, best practices and the lessons learnt along the way. By leveraging data and digital tools the sector can navigate the challenges of capital planning and investment strategies to ensure sustainable, cost-effective and resilient water and waste networks now and for future generations.
