Mike has 33 years’ GB and international energy sector experience, firstly at National Grid and Enron for 12years, and then as a consultant for 20 years with DNV, AFRY, EY, Capgemini and now Baringa.
As a consultant he has led a wide variety of projects at senior & executive levels for the European Commission, national governments & regulators, major utilities, new market entrants and investors in over 20 countries worldwide, as a leading expert on all aspects of power networks and their interaction with wholesale markets and other power sector stakeholders.
A key area of focus of the last 18 months has been helping clients consider and address the current challenges the GB energy sector currently faces on timely, cost-effective and secure delivery of the Net Zero ambitions, and associated network investments. This includes leading work on Net Zero Market Reform and GB Connection Reform options, development of multi-purpose offshore networks, reviewing energy network resilience, adopting whole system approaches, and developing the future shape of the RIIO3. This has meant he has engaged with many of the key stakeholder across the GB energy sector including DESNZ, Ofgem, network utilities and other industry parties – a heavily involved in finding solutions to challenging problems.
