Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network and is responsible for operating, maintaining and innovating the gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Its skilled workforce is committed to the communities it serves, ensuring gas reaches 11 million homes and businesses. As part of its social impact programme, Cadent has a range of partnerships and support services. Through Ofgem’s Vulnerability and Carbon Monoxide Initiative (VCMI), for example, Cadent supports customers living in vulnerable situations by funding projects that raise awareness of carbon monoxide risks and improve energy efficiency. Its Services Beyond the Meter initiative goes further, offering extra support to customers who otherwise could be left in a vulnerable situation and without gas. This includes repairing or replacing unsafe appliances to keep properties safe and warm. Finally, Cadent funds the Cadent Foundation, which provides grants to charitable projects that tackle fuel poverty and promote sustainable solutions. Since its inception in 2019, Cadent Foundation has awarded over £28m to initiatives that help communities living in fuel poverty.
