The government’s ambitious goal of decarbonising the electricity system by 2030 puts energy networks at the forefront of net zero.

With 1,000km of pylons and 4,500km of offshore network needed to hit this target by the end of the decade, electricity transmission operators will be the most visible role in this journey. But their counterparts on the distribution side also have an important part to play, not least in speeding up connections and aiding local pathways to net zero. Meanwhile, gas networks must define their place in the energy transition, whether that is through repurposing the current grid, helping to decarbonise industry or storing energy.

Whatever your function with the energy network sector, one thing is sure, the next few years are never going to be dull.

Utility Week’s Future Networks Conference aims to harness this sense of excitement about building a whole systems pathway to net zero. Senior leaders across the sector will address the opportunities and challenges along the way, encouraging debate and collaboration.

Among the topics we will be discussing are key announcements from Ofgem and NESO and how regional and spatial energy plans are progressing. We will gauge progress on unblocking the queue to connect to the transmission grid and explore how you can roll out infrastructure at scale.

As well as debating the role of gas in decarbonisation and the resilience of electricity networks in the face of mass adoption of low-carbon technologies, we will also look at net zero on a local level and how networks can be truly customer centric.

Join us in Birmingham for thought-provoking debate and networking with peers around what the networks of the future will really look like.

TOPICS INCLUDE

Network strategy, policy and investment

The role of gas in the government’s net zero future
